Hacking Health : increasing adherence to therapy through gaming

Since Friday, 34 projects combining Technology and Health have been realized at Montreal Hacking Health. Our team of ten people was able to conceive a new game and to make operational the interface which connects the PEP device to the computer. Interface and game are going to be tested by children at the Cystic Fibrosis Clinic of Sainte Justine Hospital. In the game 'PEP Hero', the child embodies a captain who must lead his ship to the farthest places of the bronchi. To move the ship, the child breathes through the PEP device. Through the game, the child receives information about the quality of their expiration (a constant expiration from 3 to 5 seconds is expected). On the medical level, expiring properly can loosen the mucus which is clogging the airways. Thanks to Justine Sun, Sophie Courchesne, Damien Galan and Kadeem Dunn who joined our team. Thanks to the organizers of the event for their commitment.
